Re: The Great Train Expo
Sorry to say that I'm not making for this show. Saving my pennies for the Worlds Greatest Hobby show in February. The N-scalers are taking a pair of N-trak modules to the WGH to combine with other clubs.
The Titans have their first playoff game in Nashville this weekend so expect some additional traffic...

Re: The Great Train Expo
have you been to both shows?
is the "greatest" show werth the extra $3.00 for admission? it is $10 and the "expo" is $7. i have only been to one show in nashville, and right now i could not tell which one it was. i just know it was at the nashville fairgrounds. ... the calendar needs fixed it gives this website http://www.greattrainexpo.com/ for the feburary dates. it should have http://www.wghshow.com/index.htm i got confused between the two shows and the two dates |

Re: The Great Train Expo
It's hard to compare shows. They will be both similar and different. The WGH will feature manufacturers along with some of my non-local favorite vendors. The GTS I assume may be more local vendors due to the closeness of the schedules of the two shows.
I'd go to both if I could... We commited the modules to the WGH show many months ago so that's my focus. What's the big deal with $3 extra for entry after spending $30 for gas, $15 for food, $5 for parking, and $XXX.XX for train stuff!

just have to see what next month brings. Quote:
just wanting to know why one was more than the other. i'll save the $5 for parking, wife will drop me off and go shopping. hmmmm.... which will likely cost me more plus i thought i would mention it, seeing as it would save you 300 pennies |

Re: The Great Train Expo
I'll bet the $3 admission difference can be linked to the higher cost for the convention center vs the municipal auditorium. Or I could be wrong that it's actually just a money sucking capitalistic ploy to take as many pesos out of our pockets as possible. In our family if the wife goes to a train show the husband goes to a shopping mall.

Being from Nashville originally, I can tell ya that you hit the nail on the head. Municipal (aka the dim dome) has been around since at least the early 70's. It was paid for a loooooooooong time ago, and now only has to charge enough to keep hte lights on and do preventative maintenance. The convention center on the other hand.... well, let's just say it is a tad more expensive. |

i went to the show myself, 10 - 12 noon. got out before the game people jambed everything up then went shopping with the wife - which i don't mind. there was a HO and N scale layout to look at. neither of which was detailed enough to merrit any pics. mostly covered plywood and miles of track. maybe next time they will be more complete. there were plenty of vendors, and some of them got my money. there was, tho, plenty of space for more stuff. i had 2 funfilled hours, so i got my $7.00 werth |
