Steamtown, USA
Thought I would share a couple of the many pictures I took while visiting Steamtown USA in Scranton, PA. This is a huge facility with a yard full of engines and rolling stock. A roundhouse full of exhibits, RR history, and restoration shops. About everything imaginable can be found. How about a 2-4-0 steam engine or a street trolley mounted on a flatcar. During our recent vacation we were lucky to be between the flooding storms that have swamped the northeast.
Photo 1: This is a cutaway view of a 1:1 scale 0-6-0 steam engine located just as you enter their restoration shop. Photo 2: Most of the engines are steamers but this is one of the exceptions. I'm not a guru of railroads but I would gather that the Lackawanna was one of roads in this area. Photo 3: This is a Grand Trunk Western 4-8-2 Berkshire parked on the same track is a Reading 4-8-4 as well as a 2-8-2 and a 2-8-0 next to the visitors parking lot. I don't recal the road names of the later two engines. Photo 4: This is a shot of the turntable in the center area of the roundhouse museum. No trains were running during the weekdays which would have included turntable operations. Photo 5: Had to get in the picture of the UP 4-8-8-4 'BIG BOY'. I'll bet this sucker can squish a penny left laying on the tracks!
