Took the DCC plunge
Well, I did it.
After researching the options, and getting to enjoy the club's Digitrax layout, I decided to take the plunge and picked up a Zephyr off of EBay, along with a couple of decoders. I also picked up a copy of "Mastering the Digitrax Zephyr" by Loy Spurlock. So, it looks like it is time to set up a small layout, install some decoders, and get used to working with this new-fangled technology. |

Re: Took the DCC plunge
And now you can look forward at how to get those itsy-bitsy decoders inside those cavernous HO engines.
Us n-scalers just took a page from the old movie "The Incredible Voyage" and used a shrink ray and hypo to get that piece of circuitry inside our engines. Hope you enjoy your new gadgets but don't let the smoke out!

You do realize that after twenty four hours, they revert back to original size, right?

Re: Took the DCC plunge
Yet another reason to stick to HO, more room! ;-)
Now, I just need to figure out how to install them, considering that my engines are all at least 15 years old. Time to get out the multi-meter and make sure the engine is not grounded to the frame. |

Re: Took the DCC plunge
I think the latest issue of N-Scale Modeler has an article on how to do that.

Re: Took the DCC plunge
For decoder installation all you need is baling wire, duct tape, a bigger hammer, and lots of cold beer!
And maybe a fire extinguisher...

Re: Took the DCC plunge
Okay. But what if you've already used the duct tape for your terrain? What do you use then?
