New Show Layout Track Plan
All KAMR Members-
For some time there has been discussion at KAMR about the need for a small, portable "show layout" to represent us at train shows and other outside functions. Since the layout will be small, we decided N-Scale would pack in the most layout in the required small-radius curves. For several weeks, some of us have been planning and working out the design and logistics of such a layout. The design criteria are- 1. Portable and lightweight 2. As few parts to haul and assemble as possible 3. Setup, manning, tear down, and transport by as few as two people 4. Must fit in a van or MUV 5. High-quality to bring visitors to KAMR 6. DCC operation 7. Setup without complex tools Because this is an "ambassador" for CMOR and KAMR, it has been brought up that the funds for the layout will come from the general fund, not the divisions. When finished, it will be available to all club members for any function they feel suitable. We will have a vote from the general membership at the next business meeting to proceed with the layout or not. Below is a plan of the proposed layout for comments/questions. It is 32"x136", but will break down and fasten together to make a 32" x 68" x 24" box with legs folded into the frame. All scenery is enclosed by the backdrop and ends when packed. Because the KAMR website is a public space, a separate e-mail will be circulated with a cost estimate for all current KAMR members. Please send any comments/suggestions to Phil Brooks, Bruce McElhoe, or Larry Burkholder, or feel free to reply to this post. Thanks! -Phil

Re: New Show Layout Track Plan
Thanks for the layout design effort!
It took a while to penetrate my thick head but I would like to include the possibility of adding DCC electronics such as block signals, automatic highway crossbuck lights with sound modules for the bells, and how about decoder/transponder equipped loco's, etc. It's all in the details.

Re: New Show Layout Track Plan
Is there a legend for the structures that are needed? I may be able to supply a few.

Re: New Show Layout Track Plan
The exact selection of structures has not been fixed. As a starter, the three buildings on the right hand module are a mining facility, a lumber yard/transfer facility, and a passenger station. Phil is donating the mine and I have the passenger station. The left module is up for grabs, sort of. The yard will have an engine repair building and other assorted suppored appropriate structures, the three large blobs on the spurs are just indicators of businesses and there will be some town structures (DPM type?) and maybe a gas station. We are hoping that club members will offer assembled and detailed structures for this project.
So what'cha got?

Re: New Show Layout Track Plan
I there a season or era set for the layout? I assume "N" scale. Maybe Jim Schall and the large scale boy can make buildings if you give us specifics. Brad

Re: New Show Layout Track Plan
We have not focused on any era but would most likely use structures that would cover the transition period so either steam or diesel would look 'correct'. As for the look of nature I would venture that late spring-ish would be our desire. Lots of tall (as fits) green trees and such.

Re: New Show Layout Track Plan
Thanks, Brian-
Your generosity is much appreciated! When we get the basic scenery done and begin detailing I bet we can find homes for a lot of those detail parts. Thanks again, -Phil

Re: New Show Layout Track Plan
I know I'm not a member but I'd enjoy helping out with structures, etc. Problem is the job I have never gets me a day off on Sundays...
But, I can still build at home and someone can pick it up at the store. Rob |
