Old Math Lesson??

I was recently wondered about that old math lesson we were all exposed to about two persons on a trestle a certain distance across and a train is coming. Different variations required you to determine the speed of the train and such. What has just bugged me a bit is this question never included the 'what if you jumped' scenario.

I look back at this and maybe I should have bugged my teachers that the question would be better written using a tunnel rather than a bridge. Now these persons would have to decide if or which way to run upon seeing that light at the end of the tunnel with no jumping option. All the time thinking is that the light of day or the Southern Pacific Daylight?

Don't ask me where this thought came for the simple reason it's finally Friday and I'm in a wierd place mentally (I know, for me, situation normal).
