History of Model/Toy Trains Video Review

A club member brought in a VHS tape produced by The History Channel titled "Trains unlimited - Model railroads or Toy Trains". I just viewed this tape and was fascinated by how well it covered the history of toy trains from push toys up to recent offerings. This tape covers the early toys made in Europe, to how Lionel got into the business and became the dominant manufacturer of its time. The evolution of self propelled trains (pre-electric) to digital control is covered. The selection of gauge and even why the three rail track. The show is not just Lionel but this company is the predominant brand covered due to its impact on model railroading. I had no idea that even in WWII with the shortages and priorities of the war effort that due to the lack of metal and to stay afloat financially, Lionel made cardboard train kits complete with cardboard tracks! I wonder how you would clean those rails?

This tape is available for all club members to borrow and enjoy. I do recommend this video (so does my wife).

Mr. Huskey this one should be on your viewing list!:D
